Mourning the loss of the Internet Monk

Posted: April 7, 2010 in Uncategorized

I was saddened to hear of the death of Michael Spencer, aka the Internet Monk.  I met and befriended Michael at last year’s Cornerstone Festival.  We got to chat in between sessions as well as doing a joint session on the future of evangelicalism.  He gave a really positive review of my book as well as asking me to do a blog post on his blog on the Rickshaw Rally incident a few years back (Which I never got to). Many of Michael’s readers are Southern Baptists as was Michael himself. (He was not actually a monk). His article on the Coming Evangelical Collapse was a landmark article (blog post series) that challenged many.  His blog was an important blog that raised critical issues of faith, spirituality, and ecclessiology for evangelical Christianity.  I had heard that he was diagnosed with cancer, but didn’t realized that the cancer was so advanced.  His death today comes as quite a shock. My prayers for his family.

Below is an interview I did with Michael at Cornerstone last year:
